Observations on an Election ...

Well, as they say, I saw it through to the end ...

I was asked to be an Observer at the Recount of the Ballots and leaned over the shoulder of the Official Counters for Monday and Tuesday. The result of the recount is that the number of votes for many of the Candidates changed but it had no effect on the results of the election.

It was, however, an event of great Drama as the Ballots were counted Ward by Ward and the Vote shifted slightly one way and the next. I am glad that I participated and had a chance to see Democracy in action. I can attest, in Portsmouth, your vote is well cared for and jealously guarded.

True Grit?

Well, Toby Hatchett gets it.
Reality isn't easy but it has a pleasant, gritty feel to it.
In her most recent opinion piece in the Herald, (November 10, 2007) she searches for the heart of the grit.
It turns out to be all around us and Toby just loves it ...
I just love it too.

Portwalk parking plans proposed

My spirits soared when I read the piece by Adam Leech (November 09, 2007). Building a parking structure under the new "Portwalk" project is a good idea. This proposed (underground) solution by the EDC makes sense for our needs today and shows great vision. It's no secret that Parking structures 'fit' poorly in our historic downtown. Parking garages break up the scale of the surrounding buildings and break up the rhythm of the shops and store fronts.
Bravo EDC!
Do you think it's time to look at the parking plan for the Westin Hotel Project?

Election Result

Well, that didn't work out quite the way that I planned.
Thank you all for your support.
My head is still spinning and I don't have any idea what I am going to do next, but I will let you know as soon as it comes to me.

Get Out the Vote!

It is easy to point out the hyper-reality of my thinking right now but, Young Adam Leech of the Herald says, "If recent trends hold true, less than one-third of all registered voters in the city will vote in the municipal elections Tuesday."
Tell me it isn't true.
You can read it your self at ...

Election Results

I'm pretty excited about Tuesday.
I'm sure that you are, too.
Young Adam Leech has (no doubt with some help), put together an Election Results web page ...
